It is that time of the year: while visiting with family and friends we get exposed to all kinds of germs. This results in colds, sore throats, and the nagging coughs that keep you up all night.
Here is a quick DIY cough syrup you can make with the simple ingredients you have in your fridge. Great for the family (from the 3 years old to the adults).
- Honey (Note: Honey is not safe for babies younger than 1 years old)
- Coconut Oil
- 1 Lemon or Lemon Juice
- 1 Small Pot
I combine all ingredients in the small pot on the stove. Keep the temperature low enough to only melt the coconut oil, then combine ingredients. Stir until dissolved and all ingredients are combined. Allow to cool and store in a small jar.
When our family is under the weather we use this syrup so much I leave the jar on the counter. If I am not using it as often, I add a label and place it in the fridge, where it can be stored for up to a week. When needed, simply warm to melt the coconut oil (it will be in a solid-state), and shake to combine ingredients.
I find having one or two tablespoons helps soothe a nagging cough or sore throat for the entire family. I hope this helps get you through seasonal or year-round colds and coughs.
